The project
Scope
A freestanding new building on a steeply sloped lot in Ocean Shores, designed to Passivhaus principles. The structure was conceived as a separate living area, bedroom and bathroom connected to the main house by an undercover bridge. Steep pitched roof and vaulted ceilings created the open, light-filled feel the brief called for.
Approach
Passivhaus delivery has its own discipline. Air sealing, insulation, thermal bridging, controlled ventilation: each element has to be planned and executed to specific tolerances or the system fails. The steep slope of the site added an additional layer to the structural and access work.
The build was managed closely with Barefoot Building Design through the design and construction stages, with the Passivhaus-specific decisions made early and held to throughout. The bridge connection to the main house was a particular detail that required careful resolution.
Outcomes
We recently had a granny flat built by Jason and couldn't be happier with the experience and the finished result. From start to finish Jason was transparent, reliable, and incredibly easy to work with. Nothing was ever too hard, he's a great problem solver and always found practical solutions whenever needed. What really stood out was his attention to detail and the way he took care of everything throughout the entire process, making it as stress free as possible.
