The project
Scope
A strip terrace in a conservation heritage area on Ridge Street, Surry Hills. One of three Canstruct-renovated terraces in a row on the same street. The project involved extensive internal renovations and a full attic conversion, working with Ken Powell Architect through the design and build.
Approach
The conservation heritage area required careful work to the streetscape and external elements. Internally, the build had the usual quirks of an older Sydney terrace: walls that were not where the plans said, services that needed full replacement, a roof structure that had to be reworked to accommodate the attic conversion.
The project ran to plan with a small number of variations that emerged as the age of the house was understood more fully through the demolition stage. Trades were briefed carefully and managed closely on site, with regular communication with the client and the architect.
Outcomes
Builder, Jason Dumaresq, was contracted to undertake a major renovation of a Terrace House in Surry Hills. Overall, the build went to plan and with only a few minor variations that cropped up due to the age of the house. In the end we were happy with the workmanship and finished product. The various trades did an excellent job, especially the tiler whose work was exceptional. Jason did a great job in managing all the trades as well as keeping open lines of communication with us during the build. We met with Jason on regular intervals to discuss work completed as well as progress moving forward. We would recommend Jason to anyone looking for a builder and would consider using him again should any other future projects come up.
